Africa, holidays for all interests
Africa is most commonly associated with
safaris and viewing wildlife. But the continent has more to offer
than that. From wonderful relaxing beach resorts of Kenya, the
hustle and bustle of the cities of South Africa, the splendour of
the migration of the herds in Tanzania, and the harsh wildernesses
of Namibia, Africa has something to offer any holiday visitor.
Our major partner in Africa is
Wilderness Safaris.
This landlocked country is virtually the
size of France and has over one third of the area set aside for
wildlife and conservation management.
Botswana's beautiful
scenery, prolific wildlife and excellent private game reserves
make it one of Africa's top safari holiday destinations. The jewel
in Botswana's crown is undoubtedly the Okavango Delta, where you
can enjoy wildlife viewing on foot, from open-topped safari
vehicles or from a mokoro dugout canoe. Though you’ll be out in
the wild, your camping experience will be anything but, staying in
remote yet exquisite camps that feature en-suite bathrooms and
fine dining.
The modern safari holiday was born in
Kenya, with safari being the Swahili word for “journey”. Within
the borders of this magical country, you will find savannah rich
with big game, timeless cultures unchanged by the modern world,
pristine beaches and coral reefs, equatorial forests and mighty
snow-capped mountains, searing deserts and cool highland retreats,
an exotic history and a fascinating modern culture.
A popular destination for first time safari
seekers, Kenya also has many well-hidden treasures for those
looking for exclusive and off the beaten track experiences away
from the crowds. Kenya offers adventure, relaxation, culture and
sport, in fact, a safari for every day.
Namibia is an extraordinarily rich
destination for a wildlife safari holiday. Namibia is a country of contrasts, straddled between two deserts – the Namib, along its coastline and the Kalahari to the east.
Largely untouched and unspoiled by man,
Namibia is larger in
size than Britain and France together, yet with a population of
just 1.8 million there are huge tracts of open space, enormous
blue skies all year round, and hardly a soul to disturb the peace.
The extensive saltpans of Etosha, the desolate beauty of the
Skeleton Coast, where 1,000 foot sand dunes are breathtaking to behold.
Namibia today is a colourful combination of arid climate, African
culture and towns heavily influenced by other countries,
predominantly European, who governed prior to it achieving
independence in the 1990’s.
All combine to provide an astonishing holiday
destination, perfect for those wishing to see African wildlife
untamed, and seeking a holiday with a difference.
An overnight flight away, yet with no
jetlag, South Africa’s landscapes, wildlife, habitat and culture
are so diverse it is often billed “a world in one country”. Most
first time holiday visitors either opt for the Western Cape with its
iconic Table Mountain, vast wine lands and exquisite beaches to
world-class restaurants and cosmopolitan entertainment haunts of
Cape Town; or see the sights on the Eastern side of the country,
which includes the warm Indian Ocean, the Drakensburg Mountains
and of course, Kruger National Park where you can see and
experience the big five on safari.
Once visited, many return to explore more of this beautiful
country, often combining it with a visit to one of its neighbours.
