Supplementary information for the Central India Tiger Tour

21 November - 2 December 2006

Endangered Wildlife Travels (a division of Diplomatic Travel), in association with Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, have pleasure in presenting a guided tour of India focusing on the wildlife, culture & architecture of the northern central provinces of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Ranthambore Tiger Reserve was once the private hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur and still contains the ruins of their 10th Century Fort that the elusive tigers often frequent.  Bandhavgarh National Park also has a rich diversity of wildlife and birds, including elephant, leopard and jackal, as well as a good population of tigers. Both reserves attract professional photographers from all over the world to enjoy their wildlife. You can’t go to India without visiting its historical wonders including Delhi and Agra.

On our exclusive tour you’ll see the India that inspired Rudyard Kipling, experience game viewing like never before, from the back of an elephant, and visit one of the seven wonders of the world - the Taj Mahal.

Tour Itinerary

A detailed tour itinerary is enclosed.

In outline the tour consists of visits to two of India’s premier wildlife reserves, Ranthambore and Bandhavgarh, with cultural and historical visits in Delhi and Agra, site of the world famous Taj Mahal.

Flights to Delhi have been arranged from Heathrow. Flight upgrades can be arranged, subject to availability, at additional cost.

Indian roads and driving skills are an experience all of their own, which is why we have used trains and planes wherever possible to travel across and between the regions on the tour.

Visas

Visas are compulsory for India and must be obtained prior to entry from their High Commission in London, either in person or by post.

India have bureaucracy second only to that of the UK (or France) – so please read the back of the form very carefully before completing it. Most of it is self-explanatory bar the “referees” section at the bottom of the front page. Against Indian referees write – C/O India Calling Tours Ltd, 3 Commercial Complex Hanuman Road, Connaught Place, New Delhi. Tel No. 2334 4657.

If in any doubt call me or visit www.hcilondon.net.

Two visas forms, showing the Indian High Commission’s contact details and visa documentary requirement are enclosed in your pack of information.

Health

There are no mandatory vaccinations required for India, however malarial precautions are strongly advised. Drink only bottled water and avoid uncooked foods or that sold in local markets.

Please refer to your GP for up to date medical advice.

It is an EU recommendation that you have adequate travel insurance.  We offer either essential or comprehensive cover policies through Endsleigh Insurance from £35.50 per person for essential cover (£46.15 for comprehensive) or £63.90 for a couple (£83.07 for comprehensive).  Age and health conditions apply.  Details are enclosed and if you would like to take our insurance, the application form plus appropriate premium must be returned with your deposit upon booking.

Please indicate on your booking form if you already have insurance with another provider.

Climate

November is the beginning of India’s winter with the hot, wet and humid months of the monsoon having given way to more temperate weather, with average daytime temperatures of 29C and 12C at night. It is unlikely to rain.

Warm fleeces, a hat and gloves are recommended for early morning game drives when the temperature will be cooler until the sun is fully up.  That said, when the sun appears it very quickly warms up.

The currency in India is the Indian Rupee with an exchange rate to sterling of approximately R80.00/£.  You can purchase rupees in the UK but it is illegal to take them into India!  There are a number of bureau de changes at Delhi airport.

This price is valid for the first 10 bookings received.
