Beach and Bush - a honeymoon testimonial.
Trevor and Bunty Meeks were already planning
their wedding when they moved to Sussex from London. Bunty takes up the
story:
“Trevor
and I had always planned to go on a safari for our honeymoon, but we wanted
more than that – preferably a desert island, a chance to see the cultural
side of a country and absolute luxury! I noticed an advertisement for
Diplomatic Travel, who seemed to offer exactly the sort of special holiday
we were seeking. Their knowledgeable, friendly service made the booking
experience incredibly enjoyable. We felt completely safe in the hands of
Simon Lacey and his team, especially when we realised we had TVR sports cars
in common!
“Our honeymoon began in Zanzibar where we
dined in the moonlight in a private grass leaved ‘room’ with the flawless
beach a stone’s throw away. Nothing, however, could prepare us for the
utter heaven of Mnemba Island with just 10 rooms. To call it a resort would
be to miss the uniqueness of this island treasure; where our personal butler
took care of our every whim, from laundry to food and drinks. We strolled
around the island, went kayaking and loved dining by candlelight on the
beach every evening.
“Finally,
the game drives on safari in Tanzania were awesome and we saw the big five
many times over. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge was decadence personified: our
petal-strewn, chandelier-draped room mirrored the colonial-style splendour
of the dining room and our ranger and butler could not have been more
helpful. Klein’s Camp was a short plane “hop” away where we experienced
thrilling night drives and even watched a leopard make a kill.
“Where else, we wondered, would we have the
opportunity to be thrilled by the close proximity of wild animals and the
freedom from clock-watching the rules our normal lives? The answer is
Africa. It goes without saying, “we shall return”!
